Poetry - August

We kicked off the month of August in Mrs. Miller's class with a lot of activities that helped students get to know each other, Mrs. Miller, and the classroom expectations. It wasn't long before we jumped into a rigorous routine and began our first project. First we talked about overcoming obstacles in life. We also discussed life lessons and how they are learned. Finally, we talked briefly about types of poetry. Students then took all of this information and put together poetry projects consisting of four poems each, based on life lessons. The result was astounding. It was amazing to read the deep thoughts of Will Rogers' 7th grade students. It was clear that, though young, these students have a great deal of original thought and life experience that can enrich the learning environment. I, personally, look forward to seeing what they continue to come up with this year!
